Foyer Transformation

When our clients purchased this stately Rockford Park house, the imposing, three story foyer was grandiose and cold. The space had lavish features that did not fit with their personal style. Our goal was to create a more approachable and welcoming front entrance, while also bringing function to the space and adding a nod to the home's location near the Delaware Art Museum.

Front Entrance

Adding Light and Warmth

- The walls were painted with a neutral grey to create a clean, airy backdrop.

- Simple furniture in warm wood tones - including a demi-lune console table and a custom upholstered cushioned bench - add structure and a casual feeling when entering the home. The modern striped print brings a relaxed quality, and the baskets underneath provide storage.

- Glazed pottery, silver accessories, and a large reflective mirror give a lightness to the space.

Fixing Existing Features

- Rather than replace the existing opulent tile in the large space, placing a warm silvery grey patterned rug in the center of the room toned down the warmth of tile bringing it into the preferred color palette.

- The niche under the stairs, which originally had glass shelves, was converted to a small gallery wall with grass cloth wallpaper as the backdrop for small prints.

Play-up Locale

- Taking the home's location next door to the Delaware Art Museum as a cue, a large modern art canvas provides a focal point for a serene, gallery-like atmosphere.

- Small framed prints of local scenes hang inside the small niche, adding to the gallery feel while also personalizing the space.
